新作劇場版名為「聖鬥士星矢 Legend of Sanctuary」，由車田正美負責總監製，內容則是大人氣的「聖域十二宮篇」。
車田正美出道40週年。為了紀念，在2014年初夏車田正美的代表作「聖鬥士星矢」將作為「車田正美·熱血畫道40周邊紀念電影」登場！
據悉，本次動畫電影化距前作劇場版已經有10年時間，本次的電影企劃在2011年始動，特別請到了TV版「TIGER＆BUNNY」以及「黑執事」的監督佐藤敬一，腳本則是鈴木智尋，將描繪21世紀的聖鬥士們的戰鬥傳奇。
