現在在今年的美國E3遊戲展上，這款遊戲的手機版《國王騎士暗黑龍之怒》（キングスナイト-Wrath of the Dark Dragon）也宣布將會在今年內開服。遊戲在2016年的時候曾經放出手游的事前登錄和遊戲的一些消息，但是由於各種原因遊戲在2016年並沒有開服和公開下載的消息。
在E3展上，沉寂了幾個月的遊戲重新在展台上展出，並在推特上宣布將會在2017年年內推出。
本作的遊戲類型和1986年的初作一樣，是縱版射擊類游戲，玩家需要打倒特定敵人或者破壞機關來前進。玩家操控遊戲中主人公的移動和特定技能的釋放。可以自行選擇雙手操作和單手操作。遊戲中和初作一樣，有5種職業（戰士，魔道士，盜賊，格鬥家，盾兵）供玩家選擇。遊戲中將會有PVP模式和協力模式，最大支持4人聯機。遊戲在開服之後還很大機率會聯動《最終幻想15》。
